I was watching CNN last night and they did a piece on women and power - about how far we've come and yet, how much growing is still left to be done. Of course they were speaking about women in CEO positions but I can attest that the horrible label of being 'too aggressive' isn't reserved for those of us climbing the corporate ladder.
Even in the fitness industry, women are faced with a double standard. I am constantly told that I'm too intimidating and I immediately ask the person delivering that message what makes me so. The answer I ALWAYS get has
got to be the saddest thing I've ever heard - because I'm so strong. WTF!!!! Are you kidding me?!!?! The fact that I have great biceps and can HELP you carry something makes me intimidating?
This goes to the men... Grow some cahones! If you prefer to have a partner who can barely pick up her purse, sadly you have a ginormous pool to fish from. But that speaks volumes about your weak and dominating character. And to the women... Grow some cahones! If you simplify yourself because the menfolk don't like you too strong then that speaks volumes about your lack of character or belief in yourself. If there was nothing to choose from but rooted, nurturing, powerful, giving, smart, strong, loving women then there would nothing to choose from but rooted, nurturing, powerful, giving, smart, strong, loving women.
There's a lot of power in these little bodies of ours girls. It's beautiful, and sexy, and enchanting. If we embraced it, then our daughters would be this way and our sons would adore and appreciate it.
